St. Louis Bookfest

A festival of books, yes please!  The girls and I discovered this gem about two years ago in the Central West End.  So what does a festival of books look like? Well, it looks like lots of local authors with their books ready to sign and talk about their books, but also some things you might not think of.

One of my favorite booths is local printmaking art studio is Central Print (also mentioned in https://thismomsstlouis.com/2019/07/27/night-in-havana-at-laumeier-sculpture-park/) Central Print usually has different old type sets that can either be a decorative pattern or a name spelled out that you can then press into a bookmark.

My daughters love the jewelry themed around comic book characters, including the bumblebee necklace my youngest still loves.  And of course there are comic book booths as well.

A vintage RV features writing items, including an old typewriter, and giftable pencils.  It is also a look into tiny house living with a bed/couch as you enter.

The World Chess Hall of Fame brings a giant chessboard that my girls (and dad) just have to play, along with information about the museum and activities.

And of course there are the actual books.  The independent bookstore Left Bank Books is located in the heart of the festival with a wide array of books and novelty items in a tight, but welcoming setting.  The Novel Neighbor bookstore from Webster Groves, also sets up and has a few of their favorite books as well as gifts, along with their wide array of upcoming events.

There is also live music, my favorite being a 40s jazz ensemble that you can enjoy while dining al fresco at Mission Tacos or enjoying the unique ice cream from Jennie’s (as mentioned in https://thismomsstlouis.com/2019/09/01/st-louiss-best-ice-cream/).

So if you are a book lover, this yearly celebration is a must!  The festival is held September 21st this year and I hope to see you there!
